 ATV Beacon Up (temporarily)
 Date: 2006-04-16 23:08:20
I have placed an ATV beacon on the air, temporarily, for testing. Visual carrier frequency is 433.25 MHz, with about .25 Watts into a JPOLE at 15 Feet. The transmitter is an Agile Cable Modulator barefoot into the J-Pole. Video content is test patterns and callsign boards, changing regularly. I don't expect much range with this power output, and my test with a portable TV confirms this. I was only able to receive inside the car for about 1/4 mi from the transmitter. The transmitter is located in downtown Fort Walton Beach, near FNBT, so if you're not close to there, it prolly won't be seeable without significant antenna and/or preamp gain. If you want to try, however, you can go one of two routes. If you have an ATV transverter, then, by all means, try that, otherwise, use a cable-ready TV or VCR and tune for channel 59. Use of an outside 440 antenna (vertical polarization) will be required, of course, a yagi would be better yet. Please note that the ATV transverter is likely to be more sensitive than the input of a cable ready TV or VCR, so if you have that capability, then try that first. Signal reports are solicited and appreciated...73 DE ~Steve>
