Rockoon Launch Off Alabama Coast Scheduled for 29 Oct 2000

Word came in late today that a Rockoon launch from somewhere in the Gulf Of Mexico is scheduled for Sunday. WB8ELK, Bill Brown, in conjuction with the HARC team from Huntsville, will be trying for a record. For those of you not familiar with the concept of a Rockoon, please check out Bill's site for more info about the Rockoon.

As I understand it, the Mobile ATV group GCATS (not updated since 99), is coordinating this effort as the launch of the balloon and rocket payload will occur out in the Gulf Of Mexico from the deck of a supply ship. The flight is scheduled for sometime Sunday, but no specific details had been published on the HARCSPACE site as of Friday afternoon. Initial indications are that the ATV signals from this launch may be seen for a 500 mile radius, which us in the path. Radio Amatuers in Bradenton and Mexico Beach (near Panama City) will be providing tracking stations. Look for video on 434.00 Mhz and 2419 MHz. Ballon video will have a GPS position overlay.
